Arbi Gosht or Arvi Gosht

Arbi gosht or arvi gosht is a very delicious side dish with arbi roots, which is also known as arvi roots, taro roots or colocasia roots and goats meat as main ingredients. Taro root is one of the many useful and healthy food items that are fast forgotten in our fastfood living conditions. The delicious flavour of the taro roots in combination with the tenderness of goat meat or mutton is healthy and tasty.

Ingredients

Arbi (arvi) taro root or colocasia root 1 kg

Mutton sliced 500 gram

Green chillies sliced 4 nos

Onion chopped 2 nos

Garlic paste 1 teaspoon. (you can use finely chopped garlic cloves also)

Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

Cinnamon sticks 2 pieces

Vegetable oil 4 tablespoons

Tomatoes chopped 2 nos

Ginger finely chopped or paste 1 teaspoon

Chilli powder 1 teaspoon

Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

Salt to taste

Cilantro/ coriander leaves to garnish.

Preparation

Wash the arbi or taro roots thoroughly in water.

Peel the taro roots and cut them into pieces.

Put the taro roots/arvi in a deep pot and add enough water to submerge all the pieces and cook for 10 minutes, drain the water and keep aside.

Heet oil in a pan, add the chopped onions and saute till the onion pieces become translucent or golden brown in colour.

add the chopped tomatoes, green chillies, ginger- garlic paste, cinnamon sticks, and saute for a few minutes till a fine paste is formed.

Now add the mutton pieces, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmerioc powder and salt and mix well.

Ad a bit of water if required and cook for half an hour on low-medium flame stirring the ingredients occasionally.

Add more water if required.

when the mutton becomes tender add the cooked arbi roots (taro roots) to the mutton, mix well and cook for a few more minutes.

Remove from heat and garnish with cilantro (coriander leaves).
